Ingredients

For the tart crust:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

¼ cup powdered sugar

¼ teaspoon salt

1 large egg yolk

2 to 3 tablespoons cold water

For the filling:

4 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

¼ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 tablespoons butter, melted

For the maple mascarpone:

1 cup mascarpone cheese

¼ cup pure maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

For garnish:

Chopped walnuts (optional)

Fresh mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

Make the tart crust:

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, powdered sugar, and salt until well combined. Add in the chilled, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg yolk, then gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently until a dough forms. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

      Preheat the oven:

While the dough chills, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it's hot and ready for baking.

          Prepare the filling:

In a separate bowl, gently toss the thinly sliced pears with brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and melted butter until the pears are evenly coated. Allow this mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to enhance the flavors.

              Roll out the dough:

On a lightly floured surface, take the chilled tart dough and roll it out to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Carefully transfer the rolled dough into the pan, pressing it into the corners and trimming any excess around the edges. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork to create small holes, which will prevent bubbling during baking.

                  Blind bake the crust:

Place a sheet of parchment paper over the crust and fill it with baking weights or dried beans to hold it down. Bake the crust for 15 minutes, then carefully remove the weights and parchment. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the crust is lightly golden. Allow it to cool slightly.

                      Assemble the tart:

Arrange the marinated pear slices evenly over the pre-baked tart crust. Bake the tart with the filling for 25-30 minutes, or until the pears are tender and the edges are beautifully caramelized.

                          Prepare the maple mascarpone:

While the tart is baking, in a mixing bowl, combine mascarpone cheese, pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk the mixture until it is smooth and creamy, creating a delicious topping.

                              Serve:

Once the tart has cooled slightly, slice it into wedges. Serve warm or at room temperature, generously topped with the maple mascarpone. If desired, sprinkle with chopped walnuts for crunch and garnish with fresh mint leaves for a touch of color.

                                      Presentation Tips:

For an elegant touch, serve the tart on a beautiful cake stand and add a few sprigs of mint alongside the slices for a fresh pop of color. Consider dusting the tart lightly with powdered sugar just before serving for an extra sweet touch.
