Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup grated apple (approximately 1 large apple)

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup almond butter (or any nut butter of your choice)

1/3 cup honey or maple syrup

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans)

1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries

Optional: 1/4 cup flaxseeds or chia seeds for added nutrition

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, allowing some overhang on the sides for easy removal later.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated apple, applesauce, almond butter, and your choice of honey or maple syrup. Use a spatula or whisk to blend the ingredients together until they are fully incorporated and have a smooth consistency.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and optional flaxseeds or chia seeds. Stir well to ensure an even distribution of the spices and seeds.

Merge Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix. Then, fold in the chopped nuts and raisins (or dried cranberries) for an extra crunch and sweetness.

Transfer to Pan: Pour the combined mixture into the prepared baking pan, using a spatula to spread it out evenly. Press down firmly on the mixture to ensure that it sticks together well during baking.

Bake: Place the pan into your preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes. Keep an eye on it, and look for the edges to turn a golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center to come out clean.

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Using the parchment overhang, lift the squares out and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. After cooling, slice into squares or bars as desired.

Store: Enjoy your delicious snack squares immediately, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer freshness, refrigerate them.
