Ingredients

For the crust:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes

4-5 tablespoons ice-cold water

For the filling:

1 cup pure maple syrup (preferably Grade A for the best flavor)

1 cup packed light brown sugar

4 large eggs

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups whole pecan halves

Instructions

Prepare the Pie Crust:

    - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar until well combined.

      - Add the chilled diced butter into the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized bits of butter remaining.

        - Slowly add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork until the dough begins to clump together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.

          Preheat the Oven:

            - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s ready for baking once your pie is assembled.

              Roll Out the Crust:

                - On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a 12-inch circle. Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it gently into the bottom and along the sides. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges and crimp the edges to create a decorative finish.

                  Prepare the Filling:

                    - In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, light brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

                      Incorporate the Pecans:

                        - Gently fold in the whole pecan halves into the filling mixture, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout.

                          Assemble the Pie:

                            - Pour the filling mixture into the prepared pie crust, making sure the pecans are evenly spread across the filling.

                              Bake the Pie:

                                - Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown. The pie may rise slightly as it bakes, but it will settle back down as it cools.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing. For an indulgent touch, serve each slice with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
