Ingredients

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional for added flavor)

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a touch of heat)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.

Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, large egg, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and dried oregano. Use your hands or a spatula to mix gently until the ingredients are combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Form Meatballs: With clean hands, scoop out portions of the mixture and roll them into meatballs, aiming for a diameter of about 1 to 1.5 inches. Place each meatball on the prepared baking sheet. You should achieve about 20 meatballs.

Bake Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked through and have developed a light golden color on the outside.

Prepare Honey Garlic Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, prepare the honey garlic sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/4 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of low-sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and the optional red pepper flakes. Stir the mixture and bring it to a gentle simmer. Allow it to simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Combine & Serve: After the meatballs are finished baking, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the hot meatballs and gently toss to ensure they are evenly coated.

Garnish and Enjoy: Serve the meatballs warm, garnished with additional chopped parsley or a sprinkling of sesame seeds for added texture and flavor if desired.
