Ingredients

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved

3 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a spicy kick)

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it's hot enough for roasting.

Prepare the Brussels Sprouts: In a large mixing bowl, add the halved Brussels sprouts. Drizzle in the olive oil, then add the minced garlic, red pepper flakes (if you desire some heat), and season generously with salt and pepper. Toss the mixture until each Brussels sprout is well coated.

Arrange for Roasting: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread the seasoned Brussels sprouts in a single layer on the sheet, ensuring the cut sides are facing down. This arrangement will help them achieve maximum crispiness.

Roast the Sprouts: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and roast the Brussels sprouts for about 20 minutes, or until they start to get tender and brown.

Add Balsamic and Parmesan: Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar evenly over the Brussels sprouts and toss them gently to coat. Return the baking sheet to the oven and roast for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the sprouts are a deep golden brown and crispy. In the last 5 minutes of roasting, sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top so it melts and develops a delightful crispy layer.

Garnish for Flavor: After roasting, take the Brussels sprouts out of the oven and transfer them to a serving dish. Sprinkle with the freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and freshness.

Serve with a Zing: Present the dish alongside lemon wedges, allowing guests to squeeze fresh lemon juice over the Brussels sprouts just before enjoying. This adds a bright, zesty note to complement the flavors.
