Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 medium carrot, julienned

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch piece of fresh ginger, grated

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for stir-frying)

2 teaspoons sesame oil

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sugar

Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Optional garnishes: red pepper flakes, sesame seeds, and sliced green onions

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, and 2 teaspoons of sesame oil. Mix well to ensure even coating. Allow the beef to marinate for about 10 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon of sugar until smoothly combined. Set aside for later use.

Cook the Beef: Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until the beef is nicely browned and cooked through. Once done, remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.

Stir-fry the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add a splash more oil if needed. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, stirring rapidly for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the broccoli florets and julienned carrots. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef back to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the stir-fry and gently toss all the ingredients together, ensuring everything is evenly coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to heat through and slightly thicken.

Serve: Spoon the savory beef and broccoli stir-fry over a bed of warm cooked rice or noodles. Optionally, sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a spicy kick, sesame seeds for added crunch, and freshly sliced green onions for garnish.
