Ingredients

1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen

1 cup jasmine rice

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (cornstarch slurry)

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Rice:

Begin by cooking the jasmine rice. Rinse the rice under cold water to remove excess starch. In a pot, combine 1 cup of jasmine rice with 1.5 cups of water. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed. Once cooked, fluff the rice with a fork and set it aside, keeping it warm.

      Cook the Beef:

In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the thinly sliced beef, ensuring the pieces are in a single layer for even cooking. Season with salt and pepper. Stir frequently until the beef is browned and cooked through, approximately 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

          Sauté Garlic and Ginger:

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until they become fragrant, making sure not to burn them.

              Add Broccoli:

Introduce the broccoli florets to the pan. Stir-fry for about 3 minutes, continuously stirring until the broccoli turns bright green and is tender-crisp. If using frozen broccoli, extend the cooking time by a minute or two until heated through.

                  Combine Sauce Ingredients:

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and the cornstarch slurry until the mixture is well combined and smooth.

                      Combine Ingredients:

Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour the prepared sauce over the top of the beef and broccoli. Toss everything together to ensure the ingredients are evenly coated. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and the mixture is heated through.

                          Serve:

To plate the dish, scoop a generous portion of the fluffy jasmine rice into bowls. Top it with the savory beef and broccoli stir-fry. Finish by garnishing with toasted sesame seeds and freshly sliced green onions for added flavor and crunch.
